ALVORD

CRAFT BEE – The MZ Craft Bee is 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 9 in the fellowship hall at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 615 CR 1280, in Alvord. Bring prize items, lunch and snacks and enjoy fellowship with other crafters. Kitchen is available with refrigerator and microwave. No charge, but a $5 donation to the food pantry ministry for backpacks and Alvord Meals on Wheels is appreciated. Gift items will be for sale in the WMU Store. BRIDGEPORT

HISTORICAL MARKER DEDICATION – The Bridgeport Historical Society will hold a dedication ceremony for a historical marker at the site of the old high school, 1907 Carpenter St., next to the new fire hall. The dedication is 10 a.m. Sept. 25. Anyone who attended school in the building is invited to attend and participate in a group photo.

DECATUR

BOOK SALE – Decatur Public Library is having a book sale today through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily. For information, call 940-393-0290.

CLOTHING ROOM CLOSED – Helping Hands Clothing Room at the Decatur Church of Christ, 2601 FM 51 South, is temporarily closed.

CHAMBER AUCTION – The annual Decatur Chamber of Commerce auction and banquet is Oct. 16 at the Decatur Conference Center. For tickets, visit decaturtx.com/chamber-auction.

VCA COLOR CLASH – Victory Christian Acadamy will hold its color clash at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the baseball field. The event will feature free Chick-Fil-A sandwiches, Airpod giveaways and music.

POLICE FUNDRAISER – To celebrate the retirement of longtime employee Cecil LeMond, James Wood Motors will hold a fundraiser for the Decatur Police Department at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the dealership. The celebration will include live music from Jake Hooker and the Outsiders and free food.

CANNED FOOD DRIVE – James Wood Motors has joined Decatur ISD in a canned food drive for WARM. The dealership is collecting cans in a bed of a truck in the new car building.

PARADISE

MAIN STREET FESTIVAL – The Paradise Main Street Festival is Sept. 25. The event will feature a car and tractor show, quilt show, arts, crafts and retail booths, silent auction and raffle. For information, visit paradisehistoricalsociety.org/paradise-main-street-festival/.

RHOME

RHOME VETERANS – The Rhome Veterans will have a booth at the Paradise Main Street Festival Sept. 25, with setup at 7 a.m.

WISE COUNTY

CONGREGATE MEALS – The Wise County Committee on Aging/Meals on Wheels resumed congregate meals. Free lunches are served to anyone 60 or older at the First United Methodist Church in Decatur. Doors open at 11 a.m., and lunch is served at 11:30. On Thursday, lunches will be available at Ascension and St. Mark Anglican Church in Bridgeport, same time as in Decatur. Call ahead, 940-627-5329, so enough meals can be provided.

MEDICARE WORKSHOP – A free medicare workshop will be held the second and fourth Saturday each month at 1 p.m. at 312 Texas 114 in Bridgeport. Call John Ward for an appointment, 940-210-0978.

VETERAN LEGAL ASSISTANCE – The Texas A&M School of Law – Family and Veterans Advocacy Clinic is offering online legal clinics for Wise County veterans via Zoom on the first and third Wednesday of the month from noon to 1:30 p.m. and every other Tuesday noon to 1:30 p.m. To qualify, call 817-212-4123.

CASA FUNDRAISER – CASA of Wise and Jack Counties will hold its CASAblanca casino night Nov. 6. For information, visit casawise.org. CASA will also host a Bunco event 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 16 at the Bridgeport Community Center. Tickets are $20 at casawise.org. Registration deadline is noon Sept. 15. CHARITY GOLF TOURNAMENT – Wise Hope will hold a charity golf tournament at RB Golf Club and Resort Sept. 25. Cost is $300 per three-person team with $10 unlimited mulligans available. UNITED WAY GOLF TOURNAMENT – The United Way of Wise County will hold its annual golf tournament Sept. 24 at the RB Golf Club. Registration starts at 8:30 a.m., and the shotgun start is 10 a.m. The cost is $500 per 4-person team.
