ALVORD

SCRAPBOOKING – The MZ Bee for scrapbooking and crafting is 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in the fellowship hall at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 615 County Road 1280. Attendees will bring their own projects, lunch and snacks. There is no charge, but $5 donations can be made to the Food Pantry Ministry for backpacks and Alvord Meals on Wheels.

BRIDGEPORT

MOTHER AND SON DANCE – Bridgeport Parks and Recreation will host its Mother and Son Dance Saturday at the Bridgeport Community Center. There are two dance times to choose from: 5 to 6:30 p.m. or 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at bridgeport.recdesk.com for $10 per person. The evening will include dancing, fun, food, prizes, photos and more.

DECATUR

SPORTSMAN’S BANQUET – The Decatur Youth Fair Buyers Association is having a Sportsman’s Banquet 6 p.m. Jan. 18 at the Decatur Conference Center. There will be a social hour, raffles and a silent auction starting at 6, followed by a steak dinner at 7 p.m. A live auction featuring hunting, fishing and other outdoor adventure-related items will be held at the end of the night. COMMUNITY SURVEY – Decatur residents are encouraged to take an online survey at decatur2050.com to give their input on the future of the city. Kimley Horn, the firm helping write the city’s new master plan, will use the survey results to verify the direction the community wants to go.

SEEKING INFORMATION – The Wise County Historical Society is seeking information about the history of old homes in Decatur. If you have details about the history of an older house in Decatur, call the Wise County Heritage Museum, 940-627-5586.

MARY’S GIFT – The Mary’s Gift program funded through Wise Health Foundation provides free 3D mammograms for uninsured and underinsured women and men of Wise County. 42 TOURNAMENT– Weekly 42 tournaments are held 6 to 8 p.m. Thursdays at the Decatur Senior Center.

BOOKS ON TAP – The Decatur Public Library has partnered with Trinity Street Coffee Bar for a book club. Books on Tap will meet the fourth Tuesday of the month at Trinity Street Coffee Bar on the Square. Call the library, 940-393-0290.

CHILDREN’S PROGRAMS – Decatur Public Library’s Little Learners Storytime is 10:15 a.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays for children ages 3 to 5. RHOME

VETERANS ACTIVITIES – Rhome Veterans Group will have the following activities this month: 6:30 p.m., Jan. 10, movie night at the Rhome Community library, “The Art of Racing in the Rain;” 10 a.m., Jan. 11, meeting at the library with lunch to follow.

PRESCHOOL STORY TIME – The Rhome Community Library’s preschool story time hour is 11 a.m. every Wednesday. All preschool-age children are welcome to attend. Stories, crafts and songs are designed to promote language and listening skills. Call 817-636-2767.

WISE COUNTY

RETIREMENT RECEPTION – A come-and-go retirement reception for nurse Gail Matthews, longtime manager of labor and delivery at Wise Health System, is 4 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Soli Deo Gloria near Greenwood. Matthews is retiring after 30 years and helping deliver thousands of babies.

REPUBLICANS TO MEET – Wise County Republicans and Wise Republican Women will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the courtroom at the Wise County Sheriff’s Office, 200 Rook Ramsey Drive, in Decatur. MASTER WELLNESS PROGRAM – The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Wise County is starting its Master Wellness Volunteer Program training. Volunteers undergo 40 hours of training on health, nutrition and food safety to provide outreach and education. Two in-person sessions will be held at the Wise County Extension office Jan. 21 and March 3; with the remainder to be conducted online. WEATHERFORD COLLEGE REGISTRATION – Registration for Spring 2020 classes at Weatherford College is underway. A schedule of classes is available online at wc.edu. Weatherford College Wise County office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday. Courses for the spring semester begin on Monday, Jan. 13. AMATEUR RADIO MEETING – The West Fork Amateur Radio Club (WFARC) monthly meetings are the fourth Thursday at Wise Health System in Bridgeport, in the Urgent Care waiting room, 1901 Doctors Hospital Dr. Any amateur radio operators or anyone interested in becoming a Ham radio operator is invited to attend.
