Man indicted in injury wreck

WISE COUNTY


A Louisiana man has been indicted in a 2019 wreck that injured two children and an adult.

Preston James Stinson of Downsville, La., was indicted on three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second degree felony.

According to the indictment, Stinson fell asleep as he was driving a Ford F-150 north on Farm Road 718 Nov. 15, 2019, and struck the rear of a RAV-4 that had stopped for a vehicle in front of it that had stopped to make a turn onto County Road 4659.

The driver of he RAV-4, Myrta Yvette Rodriguez of Azle and two passengers, including a 4-year-old and an 11-year-old, were injured. The 4-year-old was flown from the scene to Cook Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth.

Rodriguez and the 11-year-old passenger were taken to local hospitals by ground ambulance.

According to the crash report, the investigating trooper listed Stinson’s failure to drive in a single lane and being fatigued or asleep as contributing factors in the wreck.

2 indicted in large drug seizure

Two Fort Worth-area residents were indicted on first degree felony drug charges for one of the largest methamphetamine seizures from a traffic stop in the county’s history.

Richard Vernon Leron Davis of Fort Worth and a passenger, Mariah Tessa Manzanares of North Richland Hills were both indicted for possession of a controlled substance in penalty group 1 in an amount greater than 400 grams.

Sheriff’s deputies discovered more than 46 pounds of methamphetamine in Davis’ vehicle following a search during a traffic stop on U.S. 81/287 south of Alvord Feb. 20. The drugs were being transported from Albuquerque to Fort Worth, according to Sheriff Lane Akin.

The Wise County grand jury met June 23 and also returned the following felony indictments:
