Decatur Episcopal Church of the Resurrection’s Mission of the Month project, raising funds to retire medical debt, has come to a conclusion with amazing results. We knew we had exceeded our goal of retiring $500,000 in medical debt in our surrounding counties. However, when we received our final report, we were surprised to learn that we were able to retire more than $1,600,000.
We never know how much we touch our neighbors in our communities, but [Wednesday] there was a message on our church phone from a woman who received a letter in the mail. She was distraught because she had lost her son in 2019 and there were many medical costs. She thought it was just another bill. As she read further, she realized the debt had been paid by our little church. She was calling to thank us. Outreach is what we do best. This is why God planted us here.
