For Victory Christian Academy sophomore Tianna Geiger, running has become a part of her life since she signed up for cross country in seventh grade.

“It’s just really became a habit for me,” said Geiger. “I love running, so I want to keep pushing myself every morning to wake up and get better in order to reach the next level.”

Geiger’s efforts were rewarded at the TCAF state championships Oct. 21 at The Buff in Haltom City. She dialed up her speed on the home stretch to claim the bronze medal in 13:21.93.

“I’m really amazed because I made running at state my main goal during the fall,” she said. “I’ve been working hard for this, and it’s a big accomplishment.”

Geiger was in sixth place for the majority of the race before picking up the pace in the final stretch.

“At the last 200, I pushed my hardest and I ended up passing three people,”

Geiger said. “It really came as a surprise that I was third, but I’m very happy with the result.”

With her junior campaign on the horizon next year, Geiger wants to climb to a higher rank on the awards podium.

“I want to get the gold,” she said. “I’m already working on my goals, and I need to keep working as hard as I can to reach them one by one.

“I think the main area I need to work on is my start. I probably need to get out there a little farther and cut my first mile time down. I also need to keep my adrenaline in check and keep my pace throughout the race.”

Her future plans are to attract attention from collegiate programs.

“I really want to run cross country at Midwestern State University,” Geiger said. “They have a good health program, and it’s really close to home. It’d be nice to get a scholarship there.”

VCA coach Joe Berry praised Geiger for her achievements.

“Tianna just loves to run,” said Berry. “She’s one of the hardest workers in cross country I’ve ever coached.”
