New Keystone to be started soon
It is reported that a contract for a new Keystone well has been made with Messrs. Hunter and Scott, and that work of erecting a 112-foot derrick will be started the first of next week. The new location will be about 300 feet north of the old well, and the drilling will be done with a rotary outfit. This will be good news to the people who have been interested in the operations in that part of the field, and it assures a thorough test of what it believed to be one of the most productive sections in the state. The showings made in the original Keystone well almost insures the test, and the work on the new well will be watched with interest. The gentlemen who have made the contract to sink the new hole, are well-known and successful operators, and are financially able to carry on the work. Mr. Hunter is a well-known operator in the Wichita Falls and Burkburnett fields, and Mr. Scott is well-known to all our people. The well, with an even break with luck, can be put down within 40 days. Actual drilling will be started within 20 days, is the report coming to the Messenger. The Carey well, west of town, is the attraction this week. Considerable oil and sand have been shot from the hole by the strong flow of gas that has been coming from the well for several weeks.

Interest running high for first Chisholm Trail Days
There have been many efforts made at getting local citizens interested to a common promotion but nothing presented so far has drawn the enthusiasm as has “Chisholm Trail Days.” This will be the first one and it is scheduled for the week of Aug. 21-26. It will coincide the last three days of the week with the Annual Sheriff’s Posse Rodeo. Chisholm Trail Days is the brain-child of Mrs. Jean McClure, chairman of the chamber of commerce retail trades committee. She got Charles Wilhite to help plan the event, and, as of now, everything is pretty well organized and a big week of activity assured. A survey of merchants was made, asking them to cooperate by dressing, owners and clerks alike, to pioneer garb to carry out the theme. They all seemed willing to abide by toe request, and, most, indicated they thought it was a good program.

Commissioners appoint Canova WC treasurer
Wise County has a new treasurer. Katherine Canova, who worked for former Treasurer Emma Ray for 12 years, was unanimously approved as treasurer by the Wise County Commissioners during Monday’s meeting. “I don’t think there’s anybody in the county who can do the job as well,” said Precinct 4 Commissioner Paul Wood in nominating Canova for the elected position. Ray, who resigned for health reasons, served as treasurer for 22 years.
