Fire destroys mobile home

A mobile home and a vehicle were destroyed in a fire that killed two pets Friday night near Decatur.

Shortly after 7 p.m., firefighters responded to a fully-involved mobile home near Private Road 4523, said East Wise Fire Chief Jim Blackney.

As firefighters arrived, the fire had almost completely consumed the residence and a nearby vehicle, with another vehicle sustaining heavy damage. Additionally, two dogs died in the fire.

“It was a single-wide mobile home at the back of the property, and when we arrived the home was 75 percent fully involved,” Blackney said.

Blackney said the residents were uninjured and outside of the mobile home at a separate residence on the property at the time of the fire.

Wise County EMS and firefighters from Decatur, Rhome and Newark assisted at the scene.

A family member created a GoFundMe to help the residents rebuild their home. To donate visit wcmess.com/mobilefire.

“Last night their house that they just got and just got paid off burnt to the ground. Unfortunately, since they just got it they hadn’t insured it yet. So everything they own is gone. Literally everything,” said family member Sarah Morris on the GoFundMe page. “All they have are the clothes on their back. My brother was so proud of his new home and had only been living there about a month. His car that was parked in front of his house is also gone from the fire.”

The GoFundMe had raised more than $6,000 of its $15,000 goal as of Tuesday.

“The worst of it all, his beloved frenchie Clyde and his chihuahua Marty were trapped in the house and they didn’t make it,” Morris added. “They were like his children. We are all so devastated about his babies, they were a part of our family. Your life can change in a moment.”
