Boyd ISD expects to name a lone finalist for its superintendent position at a special meeting Thursday morning.

The district held final interviews with two candidates Tuesday and Wednesday. After making a selection, the district will announce its lone finalist at a special called meeting 8 a.m. Thursday at the Boyd ISD Administration Building, said Boyd ISD School Board President Kyle Erwin.

The state mandates a 21-day waiting period between naming a finalist and when the new superintendent can be hired. After the waiting period, the district’s next superintendent would be able to start by the next semester.

The selection of a lone finalist is the culmination of a superintendent search that started this summer.

In July, Boyd ISD trustees unanimously approved the hiring of Education Solutions and Services to conduct the search.

After gauging priorities from the community through an online survey, the district has received applications from superintendent candidates with experience at both small-town school districts and districts that are larger than Boyd ISD.

“As far as a fit in our community, we feel we’ve seen a few candidates who fit that billing,” Erwin said last week.

Boyd ISD’s top educator position has been vacant since the school board accepted the resignation of former superintendent Tamara Vardy on May 31. Interim Superintendent Lesie Vann stepped in to lead the district in June.
