ALL SCHOOLS

FREE LUNCH, BREAKFAST – The USDA recently announced the extension of the summer feeding program to allow schools to provide free breakfasts and lunches to all students into December as funds allow. Alvord, Boyd, Bridgeport, Chico, Decatur, Paradise and Slidell are participating in the program. Northwest elementary and middle schools are also participating.

ALVORD

BAND BOOSTER MEETING – A band parent/booster meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the Alvord High School band hall.

SENIOR AD DEADLINE – The deadline for senior ads in the yearbook is Oct. 30.

BOYD

HOMECOMING – Friday is homecoming for the Boyd Yellowjackets. They take on Whitesboro at 7:30 p.m.

BRIDGEPORT

ATHLETIC TICKETS – Tickets for all athletic contests will be sold online at high.bridgeportisd.net/tickets.

SUBSTITUTE ORIENTATION – Bridgeport ISD will hold its next substitute orientation 9 to 11 a.m. Oct. 14 in the ALC Training Room, 1101 17th Street. Applications can be found on the school’s website and should be completed before orientation.

SPIRIT DAYS – Instead of pep rallies at Bridgeport High School for game days, cheerleaders are encouraging students to dress up on “spirit days.” The next spirit day is Oct. 23 with the theme of space. The final one will be Nov. 6, the class color war.

CHICO

DRAGON FOOD PANTRY – Chico Elementary is holding a food drive for the Dragon Food Pantry through Oct. 9. The grade that brings in the most assigned items wins an ice cream party.

HOMECOMING – The Chico Dragons’ homecoming is Oct. 9. A citywide pep rally is 1:30 p.m. Oct. 9. There will be yard and business decorating contests. Text 940-577-1266 to enter. Judging will take place Wednesday (Oct. 7).

JAZZ BAND CONCERT – A high school jazz band concert is 7 p.m. Tuesday in the high school auditorium. Tickets are free, but must be claimed in advance at the Chico ISD website.

DECATUR

HOMECOMING PARADE, PEP RALLY – Decatur High School will hold a reverse homecoming parade 5 p.m. Wednesday (Oct. 7) at the high school. Floats and participants will remain stationary as people drive by. The parade route will start on Business U.S. 287 and go west on Carson Drive, through the high school teacher and then student parking lots and continue west on Eagle Summit before exiting onto College Street. The parade is one way only. A pep rally will follow at 7:30 p.m. at Eagle Stadium. A ticket will be required for entry into the pep rally and will be available 8 a.m. Friday at decatureagles.net/HTTtickett. A canned food drive for Wise Area Relief Mission will be held in conjuction to the pep rally. The homecoming game is Oct. 9 against Gainesville. The queen will be announced at halftime.

FOOTBALL TICKETS – Due to UIL protocols and state social distancing guidelines limiting capacity at 50 percent, 1,259 fans on the home side, reserved tickets for Decatur football games will not be sold this year. All tickets will be general admission and must be purchased online. Tickets for football games and other athletic events can be purchased at decatureagles.net/HTTtickets.

CANDIDATE FORUM – A school board candidate forum will be held 6 p.m. Monday at the Decatur ISD Administration Building. It will be streamed on Facebook Live.

NORTHWEST

COVID-19 DASHBOARD – To keep families informed and maintain transparency with the community, Northwest ISD has added a COVID dashboard to its website. The dashboard, which shows active, real-time data, can be found at www.nisdtx.org/covidreporting.

DRIVE-THRU PLAY TO LEARN – Families who reside within Northwest ISD are invited to a twice-monthly Drive-Thru Play to Learn event for children ages 5 and under. This free program provides activity kits to parents to connect with their children, while building foundational skills. The kits include activities that promote fine and gross motor skills, problem solving, pre-writing and pre-reading skills. Upcoming events include Falling Leaves from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 9 and Rolling Pumpkins from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 20 in the east parking lot of the NISD Special Programs Center, 1800 Texas 114, in Justin. Additional details may be found on the Parents as Teachers website.

COLLEGE CAREER FAIR – NISD’s College and Career Fair will be held virtually Oct. 19. Students will have the opportunity to communicate live with college recruiters, visit with technical colleges, universities and industry representatives as well as participate in other training sessions.

PARADISE

ATHLETIC TICKETS – Tickets for athletic events are being sold at www.pisd.net/events.

FFA MEAT FUNDRAISER – The deadline to order meat in the FFA fundraiser is Oct. 9. Visit the Paradise FFA webpage on the Paradise ISD website for ordering information and a list of products.

FLORAL DESIGN FUNDRAISER – The Paradise floral design class is holding a fall floral arrangement fundraiser through Oct. 9. Contact any floral design student or Robin Meadows at rmeadows@pisd.net or 940-969-5121 to place an order. All arrangements can be picked up at the ag shop, west door Oct. 29 and 30.

ASYNCHRONOUS STUDENTS PICTURE DAY – Pictures for asynchronous learners will be Oct. 9 in the administration building. Call Mrs. Gibson at 940-696-5040 for information.

SLIDELL

COLOR RUN – Slidell Elementary will hold its color run Friday.

FLU SHOT CLINIC – A flu shot clinic is scheduled for 7:45 to 9:30 a.m. at the school Oct. 8.

FALL FESTIVAL – The Greenwood Fall Festival, which features several Slidell school groups, is Oct. 10.
