Fire destroyed a double-wide trailer in the 200 block of Judge Court in New Fairview Thursday morning.

Firefighters from East Wise, Decatur and Rhome responded to the blaze at about 3 a.m., according to East Wise assistant fire chief Jim Blackney.

“When we arrived on scene, we saw the entire roof structure of the home was nothing but solid flames,” Blackney said.

Two residents escaped the fire unharmed. A pet inside the home could not be rescued.

“The residents kept saying there was a dog still inside, and that they wanted us to go in and try to save it,” Blackney said. “I attempted to send in a crew to quickly look around. But the second they opened the front door, the roof came down, so I pulled them out. The animal did not make it out.”

Blackney said Wise County Fire Marshal’s office was called to lead the investigation. The cause of the fire is not known.

Wise County EMS also assisted at the scene.
