Boyd High School held a signing ceremony last Thursday for two athletes who will play football at the next level – Brian Couture and Dawson White.

“It’s going to be hard to replace them,” said Boyd football coach Brandon Hopkins.

Couture plans to attend Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Okla.

“I’m extremely excited to go out to the next level and represent Boyd High School,” Couture said. “I’ll be moving from wide receiver to tight end at SWOSU. I played tight end my freshman year, so it’s pretty exciting to be going back to that. I’ve put in a lot of hard work with my coaches, and they’ve taught me how to be a leader both on and off the field.”

While at Boyd, Couture was recognized as a football team captain in the 2019 season and has also played on the Yellowjacket baseball team.

“For Brian, they’re recruiting him as a tight end, so they’ll end up putting a little more weight on him,” Hopkins said. “If he sticks it out at SWOSU, I think he’ll have a great opportunity to contribute to their program.”

White also signed his commitment to play football for Wayland Baptist University in Plainview.

“I’m super stoked to be signing with Wayland,” White said. “I went over there for my first visit and just fell in love with it. The coaches really were amazing and the tight end coach, Josh Bailey, is like a father to me. The coaches here at Boyd have definitely helped me by putting a lot of pressure on me and expecting a lot from me.”

White has also been a member of the Boyd track and field and powerlifting teams.

“Dawson has been a key part to our team,” Hopkins said. “He missed a few games because of injuries. He actually missed our playoff game, and it would’ve really helped us to have him in the lineup. He’s going to play some tight end at Wayland and help them out the next few years.”
