A Boyd substitute teacher was arrested Friday after an investigation into an improper relationship between an educator and a Boyd ISD student.
Kelcei Michelle Ferguson, 28, of Boyd was booked into the Wise County Jail Friday on two charges: Online solicitation of a minor and improper relationship between an educator/student, jail records show.
In a statement released Friday evening, Boyd ISD said it received a report of an inappropriate electronic communication sent from a substitute teacher to a Boyd ISD student outside of school hours. The substitute was placed on administrative leave as the district investigated the report, and Ferguson’s employment was terminated Tuesday, the district confirmed.
“The district terminated the employment of the substitute teacher on Tuesday, Feb. 7, and has reported this incident to the proper authorities,” the Boyd ISD press release said. “The district’s primary concern is always for the safety and security of our students.”
Wise County Sheriff Lane Akin said that on Feb. 6, a school resource officer assigned to Boyd ISD learned that a 15-year-old student received nude photos from Ferguson.
“The SRO working closely with Boyd ISD administrators determined the teacher and the student communicated via Snapchat. According to the investigative findings, the substitute teacher sent several nude ‘snaps’ to the student,” Akin said.
Wise County Sheriff’s Office investigators obtained two arrest warrants for Ferguson and arrested her around 2:30 p.m. Friday at her home in Boyd.
Ferguson was released from the Wise County Jail Saturday after posting $35,000 bond on the second degree felony charge of improper relationship and the third degree felony charge of online solicitation, according to jail records.
