One person was killed and another was flown to a Denton hospital after a two-vehicle wreck involving a passenger vehicle and an 18-wheeler in Decatur Thursday.
The wreck occurred at 7:15 p.m. A 2013 Freightliner, driven by Carl Andrew, 51, of Scott, La., merged on U.S. 380 from the Shell gas station. As it merged, the 18-wheeler struck a 2018 Toyota 4-Runner that was traveling east on U.S. 380.
“For some reason, the 18-wheeler went through the yield and failed to yield the right of way,” said Decatur Police Chief Delvon Campbell. “He claimed he never even saw the car. The car ran into the side of the trailer and went under the trailer itself.”
The driver of the 4-Runner, Jamie Amon, 47, of Quinlan was pronounced dead at Wise Health System at 9:45 p.m. After an extensive extrication process, the passenger of the SUV, Sherry Demarco, 53, of Quinlan was flown to Medical City Denton with undisclosed injuries.
U.S. 380 was shutdown for hours as emergency crews worked the scene.
