The article urging residents to celebrate the Fourth with compassion on behalf of combat veterans was a timely reminder to know and care about our neighbors. Compassion – not just for veterans but for all – should be a given in our hearts but we sometimes fail to consider others. It is easy to discount the importance of publishing information like this, but if the message helped make the holiday a little more peaceful for any of our combat veterans and their families, then it was well worth the space. I’m sure the Veterans Services Office and other agencies serving our community could supply plenty of additional editorial topics for your consideration, and I am hopeful that I will have the chance to read about them in future issues.
