A Decatur woman died Monday night after being stabbed by an estranged boyfriend at a tanning salon in the 1000 block of Business U.S. 380 in Decatur.

Brandy Wallen, 45, died an hour after being taken to Wise Health System.

Ronnie Brezina, 63, of Decatur was arrested Thursday afternoon and charged with capital murder in his hospital room at Medical City Denton. Brezina, who fled the scene of the attack, was flown to the hospital by Air Evac Lifeteam 68 after crashing a SUV into a tree, ending a pursuit in the median just north of County Road 2798 near Brushy Creek north of Alvord. He had multiple self-inflicted stab wounds and a head injury.

Brezina was also charged with evading arrest and a parole violation. No bonds have been set for the charges. He remains in the hospital. Decatur Police Chief Rex Hoskins said an officer is at the hospital, and Brezina will be brought to Wise County Jail when he is discharged from the hospital.

Officers were called to an incident at Toast Your Bunz Monday evening with two individuals having an altercation in the parking lot.

“Apparently he chased her inside Toast Your Bunz and catches her in a room,” Hoskins said. “During the fight, he stabbed her multiple times.”

Brezina fled when Decatur officers arrived. Officers from the Wise County Sheriff’s Office and Department of Public Safety assisted Decatur with the pursuit north on U.S. 81/287 before Brezina crashed around 8 p.m.

U.S. 81/287 was shut down for several minutes while the medical helicopter landed on the highway. Alvord firefighters assisted with the scene. The road was reopened around 9 p.m.

Hoskins said the two had been in a relationship but had broken up around Thanksgiving. He said Thursday that investigators were still following up on leads to find out how Brezina arrived at Toast Your Bunz to approach Wallen.
