A Sunset resident was killed in a single-vehicle wreck Wednesday morning near Park Springs.

Joshua Caleb Woods, 23, of Sunset was pronounced dead at the scene by Precinct 3 Justice of Peace Mandy Hays.

The wreck happened on Texas 101 just north of County Road 1590 around 8:30 a.m.

Texas Department of Public Safety spokesperson Sgt. Ricky Hunter said a 2001 Dodge flatbed pickup was headed south on Texas 101 just south of the Park Springs community in northwest Wise County when the wreck took place.

“For an as-yet undetermined reason, the vehicle traveled off the main portion of the roadway and into a culvert. There was an approximately 20-foot drop into the culvert,” Hunter said.

The crash caused extensive damage to the front end of the vehicle, and a tow truck had to use a crane to lift the truck out of the creek before the recovery process could begin.

Wise County EMS responded to the scene along with DPS, the Wise County Sheriff’s Office, Chico and Crafton Fire Departments.
