Basketball: Northwest thumps Eaton

Avery Anderson exploded for 29 points as the Northwest Texans pounded Eaton 95-48. Northwest held a 32-point lead at halftime, dominating the Eagles from start to finish.

The Texans stifled Eaton in the second quarter, holding the Eagles to just two points.

Mason Hix finished with 19 points for the Texans. Hix went 4-of-5 from the line.

The Texans moved to 18-5 on the year and a perfect 6-0 in District 6-5A play. Northwest traveled to take on Brewer Friday in a battle for first place.

BOWIE 69, BOYD 33

The Boyd Yellowjackets dropped their third straight game, falling to the Bowie Jackrabbits 69-33.

Bowie used a 26-point first quarter to quickly mount a double-digit lead, and Boyd was unable to recover. Reuben Rodebaugh led the Yellowjackets in scoring in the loss, tossing in 12 points. Connor Richardson also ended in double figures, adding 10 points of his own. The two combined for 22 of Boyd’s 33 points.

The Jackrabbits were led in scoring by Jeffery Howard, who had a game-high 20 points.

The Yellowjackets traveled to Nocona Friday.

NOCONA 73, PARADISE 42

Nocona had four players finish in double-digits as the Indians routed Paradise 73-42.

The Panthers were led in scoring by Martin Crawford, who ended with a team-high 12 points. Crawford was the only Paradise player in double figures.

Nocona jumped out to a 46-24 lead at halftime and never looked back. The Indians’ offensive onslaught continued well into the third quarter.

The Panthers fell to 2-4 in District 8-3A play. Paradise hosted Bowie on Friday.

MUENSTER 65, ALVORD 23

The Alvord Bulldogs were unable to hang with the defending 2A state champion Muenster Hornets, falling 65-23.

Muenster took a 56-19 lead into the fourth quarter and were led in scoring by John Weger, who scored a game-high 28 points. Alvord did not have a player score in double-digits. Tanner Baker was the Bulldogs’ leading scorer with nine points.

The loss dropped Alvord to 15-8 on the season and 1-1 in District 11-2A play. The Bulldogs traveled to Era Friday.

SLIDELL 54, SAINT JO 28

The Slidell Greyhounds extended their winning streak to seven games Tuesday, throttling Saint Jo 54-28. Slidell used a couple of runs in the second half to pull away. The Greyhounds then turned to its defense to put the game on ice.

“Our defense was strong tonight containing some of their perimeter shooters,” said Slidell coach Casey Pierce. “It’s a good win and gets us one step closer to where we want to be.”

Layton Shelton led the Greyhounds in scoring with 17 points. Slayton Pruett was second in scoring, tossing in 12 points.

Slidell improved to 19-5 on the season, keeping the Greyhounds undefeated in District 21-A play. Slidell traveled to Forestburg Friday.

VICTORY CHRISTIAN 35, GRACE CHRISTIAN 33

The Victory Christian Patriots edged Grace Christian 35-33. Junior Davis Shriver led the Patriots in scoring with 14 points. Senior Jared McBride threw in nine points.

Victory Christian overcame a four-point first quarter to get the win.

“It was an ugly game, but I’m glad we won,” said Victory Christian coach Gary Dickinson.

The Patriots hosted Heritage Christian Friday.
