NO SCHOOL – There are no classes Jan. 15, Martin Luther King Jr. Day. It will be a teacher work day.


SCHOOL BOARD MEETING – Bridgeport School Board meets 7 p.m. Jan. 15 at the ALC Building, 1101 17th Street.


YEARBOOK ORDER – Yearbooks are available for $40, or $45 with personalization. Ordering information is on the district website.


COLLEGE FAIR – Sophomores and juniors may attend a college fair 9 to 11 a.m. Jan. 26 at the Region 11 Education Service Center in Fort Worth. The first 100 students to sign up and turn the permission form into the first floor office will be allowed to attend. To be eligible, students must be passing all classes and not have attendance or discipline issues.

CHAPTER SHOW – The Decatur FFA Chapter Show is Saturday (Jan. 13) at the ag barn.

CAREER DAY – McCarroll Middle School eighth-graders will take part in career day Wednesday (Jan. 10) at Weatherford College Wise County.

SPELLING BEE – Young Elementary will host the area spelling bee 4 p.m. Jan. 22.


ACADEMY APPLICATIONS – Northwest ISD’s academies are now accepting applications for incoming 2018-19 freshmen – current district eighth-graders – who wish to take part in one of eight specialized academic routes. The eight academies – focusing on aviation, biomedical sciences, business, college, cosmetology, creative media production, culinary arts and STEM – annually open the application process to eighth-graders and select students for admittance based on those submissions. Students can apply for any academy, regardless of the high school they are zoned to attend. Each student may apply to only one academy. To apply for an academy, current eighth-grade students can visit nisdtx.org/cte. The application process runs through Jan. 15, with acceptance and denial letters scheduled for mailing Feb. 10.


INTERMEDIATE SHOWCASE – Paradise Intermediate will have a six weeks showcase and UIL awards Friday (Jan. 12) in the junior high cafeteria. Fifth grade will assemble at 8 a.m., fourth grade will follow at 8:45. Parents and family are welcome to attend.


HOMECOMING – Slidell ISD homecoming is Friday (Jan. 12) with basketball games against the Gold-Burg Bears. Every day there was a different dress-up theme to celebrate Spirit Week. Thursday (Jan. 11) is Pre-Game Day, wear your favorite team jersey; and Friday (Jan. 12) is Slidell Spirit Day, show your Slidell spirit by wearing blue and orange.
