Rodrigo Duran

BOYD ELEMENTARY

Rodrigo Duran

GRADE: 1

PARENTS: Jose and Beatriz Duran

FAVORITE SUBJECT: Reading

HOBBIES: soccer

“I chose Rodrigo Duran because he has a contagious enthusiasm for learning. Whenever he makes a new discovery, Rodrigo exclaims, ‘This is the best day ever!’ Rodrigo especially likes learning really, really hard words. In fact, he can tell you what folic acid is! He is learning Latin and Greek roots and is growing a huge vocabulary. Rodrigo loves to read and is always interested in the Read-Aloud. He is currently quite upset with “Hank the Cowdog” because Hank makes such poor choices. Rodrigo delights us with his knowledge of Spanish and will often tell the first graders the Spanish word for a word that they are learning. We are delighted to have Rodrigo at Boyd Elementary school and we can’t wait to find out what Rodrigo will be when he grows up.” – Principal Anke Bracey

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE EDUCATION AS A PROFESSION? WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT IT?

“I choose to become a teacher after six years as a journalist. Teaching appealed to me because I saw it as an opportunity to share some of the things I love about writing with a younger generation. I love the idea of creating and crafting with words – stories, articles, speeches, poems are all works of art. I try my best to share the idea that words are powerful, important and lasting with my students.”
