The annual Wise County Relay for Life is an all-night event that raises funds for cancer research and services for cancer patients and their families.
There were 698 participants in the 2007 Relay - 98 were cancer survivors. A total of 44 teams camped out overnight and walked laps around the track while raising money for cancer research.
The Relay is held each spring at the Decatur Middle School track. It is sponsored by the Wise County unit of the American Cancer Society and was chaired by Anna Wallace and Chet Niblett.
The 2007 Relay raised a record-setting total of $144,000.
Wise Electric Cooperative’s team, The Outlets, once again took home the trophy as the top team. The co-op’s employees and their families raised $22,000.
Gina Tackett was the top individual fund-raiser with $2,100. |
