Harwood Park

Named for a former mayor, Bridgeport’s Harwood Park is the site of the city’s annual Butterfield Stage Days. It’s the city’s largest and oldest park, located at Texas 114 and Cates Street. Playground equipment, two sand volleyball courts, monkey bars, a walking trail and public restrooms are available.
Approximately 100 paved street parking spaces are available at Cates and 10th streets. The old wooden floor of the truss footbridge that spans Turkey Creek has been replaced with concrete, and pipe guardrails were added to prohibit vehicular traffic in the park.
The pavilion, complete with restroom facilities, is available for rental by calling city hall at (940) 683-3400. There is a $25 rental fee and a $50 deposit, which is refundable if the area is cleaned after use.
Alcohol is prohibited and park users are asked to clean their area when they leave. There is no need to call ahead to reserve any facilities, except the pavilion. The park can be used during daylight hours.

Payne Park

More than $20,000 was spent installing skateboard facilities and restrooms at Payne Park, located on the west side of town on Farm Road 920. Playground equipment was painted, giving the park a clean, fresh look. The play area is protected by pipe guardrailing. The park can easily accommodate picnics and get-togethers.
Bridgeport officials named Payne Park in honor of Lester Payne, whose roustabouts worked to aid city efforts to build Harwood Park. After Harwood was completed, the newer park was named to recognize Payne.
As with Harwood Park, the use of alcohol is prohibited and park users are asked to clean their areas when they leave. There is no need to call and reserve facilities. The park can be used during daylight hours.

Pool parties can be held Wednesday through Sunday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and 8 to 10 p.m.
