Gary Mitchell, 53, of Springtown was flown to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth after he collided with a pickup on FM 2048 south of Boyd Tuesday about 5 p.m. Mitchell was westbound in the Keeter area on a motorcycle and attempted to pass a car driven by Bruce Smith of Boyd. As he crested a hill, a small pickup driven by Francisco Juarez of Fort Worth pulled onto FM 2048 heading eastbound. Mitchell attempted to brake and was thrown from the bike, and his head struck the left rear wheel of the pickup. The bike was found more than 300 feet away in a thicket. Drivers of the other two vehicles were unhurt.
