ELECTION RESULTS - Decatur ISD voters soundly rejected the district's $8 million bond issue yesterday by a vote of 883-544. The bond would have provided upgrades district-wide as well as improvements to Eagle Stadium. Bridgeport ISD voters passed one of two propositions. Proposition 1, a $15 million package for new classrooms at two campuses, a new band hall and gym at the high school and other upgrades, passed by a vote of 649 to 601. Bridgeport's Proposition 2, a $7 million package that would have been used for technology, failed by a vote of 689 to 562.
P&Z GRANTS CURBING VARIANCE - The Decatur Planning and Zoning Commission recommended a variance for the First Baptist Church Monday that won't force the church to install curb and gutter along Farm Road 51. The variance was granted after the Texas Dept. of Transportation said it did not want curb and gutter along its right-of-way. A similar request by Assumption Catholic Church was denied recently, since that church is on a city street.

PLAYOFFS - The Decatur Lady Eagles volleyball team will begin the playoffs Saturday against Burnet. The Class 3A Region I area match has been set for 5 p.m. The two teams are still looking for a host for the match. Burnet, the runner-up in District 8-3A, advanced to the area round by defeating Whitney Tuesday night in four games. Burnet dropped the first game and then rallied to win games two, three and four.

BATTLE OF BIG SANDY - The Battle of Big Sandy bonfire and hamburger supper is 5:30 p.m. today at Decatur High School. Supper is $5 per plate. The auction starts at 6:45 and the bonfire at 7:15.

BARBECUE FOR CHARITY - Wise Electric is taking orders for Thanksgiving smoked briskets and hams. The briskets are $35 and the hams are $40. Proceeds from the sales will benefit Wise County charities. The deadline to order is Nov. 20 at 5 p.m. Pick up is Nov. 25 by noon. To order, call 940-627-2167.

SUPPORT GROUP - Amputees in Motion (AIM), a support and activity group for North Texas amputees, will meet at 6 p.m. Nov. 10 in the board room at Wise Regional Health System in Decatur.

BAKE SALE - Decatur SkillsUSA is hosting a bake sale 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Wal Mart. Donations will be accepted.

LITTLE DRIBBLERS - Deadline to register for Wise County Little Dribblers basketball league is Nov. 13. Contact Paige Ochoa at (817) 996-7420.

TEEN COURT - Wise County Teen Court is Monday, Nov. 9, at Judge Clay Poynor's courtroom in the new Annex Building in Bridgeport. All officers and defendants should be there at 5 p.m. Attorney training will follow the court session. Students who want to become attorneys for teen court report by 6 p.m.

$1 SALE - The Rhome Women's Club will have a $1 sale 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 6 and 7 at 145 First Street. Items for sale include clothing, knick knacks, small electrical items and some furniture. Money benefits a Northwest High School Senior.

REUNION - The Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation Center at Wise Regional Health System in Decatur is having a reunion for patients who have been through the program 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. today. For information, call (940) 626-2999.

COLLEGE NIGHT - Weatherford College Wise County hosts College Night 5 to 7 tonight. More than 35 different colleges/universities, armed services and many different academic departments from Weatherford College will be there to speak with prospective students and parents.
