BREAKING NEWS - BOYD FIRE - Fire heavily damaged the Boyd Kwik Stop about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The convenience store and gas station, located on Texas 114 and Hitt St. in downtown Boyd, was enveloped in thick smoke when firemen arrived. Some flames were also showing.
Boyd firemen responded quickly, with the fire station just two blocks away, and were assisted by units from Rhome, Newark and Decatur.
The fire was under control in about 20 minutes, and clean up efforts were under way within an hour.

HAZY SKIES - Heavy smoke, visible for several miles, filled the skies above downtown Boyd Tuesday evening. A fire was reported at the Boyd Kwik Stop at Texas 114 and Hitt St. Four fire departments got the blaze under control in about 20 minutes.

ROCKY START - The new Decatur fire station is officially 86 days behind schedule, related primarily to excavation of the rocky hilltop for the foundation. Assistant Chief Deroy Bennett said that if weather cooperates, the project could be ready to have the slab poured in 10-12 days. He also reported to the city council Monday that the recent ISO review went without a hitch. It should result in lower insurance premiums sometime next year.

MEET CHANGE - The District 5-3A cross country meet is 1 p.m. Wednesday at Joe Wheeler Park in Decatur. The meet was moved up a day from Thursday to try to beat storms that are in the forecast.

PET ADOPTION - During the month of October, some area businesses will make a $5 donation to Susan G. Komen for the Cure for every animal adopted from the Wise County Animal Shelter. The shelter is also accepting donated items (dry food and cleaners) in lieu of adoption fees. For more information call (940) 627- 7577.

GIVE 'EM A TIP - The Chico Volunteer Fire Department will wait tables at IHOP in Decatur from 5 to 9 tonight. Funds will benefit the fire department.

TEENS - Jeffrey Dean will lead a discussion about sex, dating, relationships and life for students in grades six through 12 at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Victory Family Church in Decatur. The event is sponsored by Wise Choices.

BRIDGEPORT PICK UP - The Bridgeport Intermediate School is holding a merchandise pick up from a recent fundraiser from 3 to 6 p.m. today at the cafeteria.

DONATIONS - Legend Bank in Decatur is accepting donations to WARM and coats for the Spirit of Christmas Coat Drive.

FISHING CURE - Registration for Fish for a Cure begins at 5 a.m. Saturday at Wise County Park. Fishing begins at 7 a.m. Proceeds benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Cost is $50 per person. CITY GARAGE SALE - Today is the deadline to sign up for the Bridgeport City Wide Garage Sale on Nov. 7. Sign up at the parks and recreation office or call (940) 683-3480.

HEALTH GROUP - The Wise County Health Group will meet 9-10:30 a.m. Thursday in the Decatur Visitors' Center, 106 S. Trinity. The group will be finalizing the Community Health Assessment Survey for distribution during November and discussing the 2010 Health Fair.

BAKE SALE - North Texas Bank is having a bake sale 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday benefiting WARM. You need to bring canned goods to swap for baked goods.

TEEN DRIVING - A program on teen driving safety, "Teens in the Driver Seat," will be presented by Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Terri Johnson and the Wise County Public Health Improvement Group at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the JP 2 Courtroom at the Wise County Law Enforcement Center.
