BOYD FIRE - Fire heavily damaged the Boyd Kwik Stop about 6:30 p.m. yesterday. The convenience store and gas station, located on Texas 114 and Hitt St. in downtown Boyd, was enveloped in thick smoke when firemen arrived. Some flames were also showing. Boyd firemen were assisted by units from Rhome, Newark and Decatur. The fire was under control in about 20 minutes, and clean up efforts were under way within an hour. Wise County Fire Marshal Marc Dodd was called to the scene to investigate.

HAUNTED HOUSE - The Bridgeport High School Mighty Marching Maroon band is having a haunted house in the new band hall at the middle school Thursday, 6-9 p.m.; Friday, 11 p.m.-1 a.m. (after the game), and Saturday, 6-9 p.m. Parking is behind the middle school and admission is $3.

EARLY VOTING - Early voting continues today through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Bridgeport ISD administration building and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Decatur Civic Center. Early convenience voting times and locations are Thursday, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Decatur Public Library and 6 to 8 p.m. at Bridgeport Elementary School and Friday, 6-10 p.m. at Bull Memorial Stadium in Bridgeport. The ballot includes the Texas constitutional amendment election and school bond elections in Decatur and Bridgeport. CLEAN UP - The City of Bridgeport's Fall Clean-Up is 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14. Clean Teams will help collect trash and debris in all areas of town. Safety vests, T-shirts, gloves, bags, food and drinks will be provided to volunteers. Shirts are limited, so sign up as soon as possible. A signed release form is required for each participant and due by Friday, Oct. 30. Release forms can be picked up at City Hall or at the Dr. W.E. Huddleston Municipal Annex. CHALLENGE - Wise Electric Cooperative has challenged other Wise County businesses in a food drive to benefit the Wise Area Relief Mission. Call Lillie Hunt at 627-2167 to take part. A custom trophy goes to the winner. Food will be collected Nov. 6.

FISHING CURE - Registration for Fish for a Cure begins at 5 a.m. Saturday at Wise County Park. Fishing begins at 7 a.m. Proceeds benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Cost is $50 per person. BAKE SALE - Citibank in Decatur will have a fall/Halloween themed bake sale from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday. All proceeds benefit the Spirit of Christmas.

CLUB MEETING - The Desk and Derrick Club of Wise County annual business meeting is 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, at the La Quinta Inn in Bridgeport. Dinner is $10 payable at the door. The speaker is Scott Mercer with Complete Production Services. The business session of the meeting is closed, but the dinner and speaker presentation is open to the public. TRUCK OR TREAT - The First Baptist Church in Decatur Truck or Treat is 6 to 8 tonight. The event will include hot dogs, candy, hay rides and games.

FUNERALS - Service for Anita Joyce Shipley, 74, of Perryton, formerly of Bridgeport, is 10:30 a.m. Friday at Hawkins Funeral Chapel with burial in East Bridgeport Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 p.m. Thursday.

MEMORIAL service for Deana Pitts, 60, of Decatur will be held at a later date. Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur is handling arrangements.

SERVICE is pending for Billy Shipp, 46, of Newark at Christian-Hawkins Funeral Home in Boyd.
