FAST GROWING DISTRICT - As the housing market begins its recovery, Northwest is slated to be the fastest growing school district in North Texas and among the fastest growing in the state, said Bob Templeton with Templeton Demographics at Monday's Northwest school board meeting. Templeton projects between 900 and 1,000 new home starts for the year and a current new vacant home inventory of 547 homes, or a 4.9 months supply. Currently, the district has 253 homes under construction, 4,416 vacant developed lots and 25,477 future lots, the highest in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

FALL FEST - The Catholic churches in Decatur, Bridgeport and Jacksboro will host their annual Fall Fest noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary church, 1305 Deer Park Road, in Decatur. A 42-inch flat screen TV, $500 gift card, iPod touch, a fishing trip and an airplane ride will be raffled. Many silent auction items, rides, games for adults and children are on the agenda. Barbecue, Mexican and Asian food will be served.

GET CONNECTED - Anyone who would like to participate in Decatur High School's "Real World Decatur" community connection program is invited to a lunch meeting at noon Tuesday, Oct. 6, in the DHS Lecture Hall. FISH FRY - The Greenwood-Slidell Volunteer Fire Department will host its annual fish fry at 5 p.m. Oct. 10 in downtown Greenwood. Events will include a meal, live entertainment, live auction and raffle. Entertainment will include The Cody Robbins Band and bluegrass music by The Salt Creek Band. DEFENSIVE DRIVING - Weatherford College in Wise County is offering a Defensive Driving class 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday. The cost is $30, and students must register for the class by noon Friday. Call (940) 627-2690.

ALVORD FALL FEST - Alvord's annual Fall Fest is 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17. To reserve a booth space, call the Alvord City Hall at (940) 427-5916. Vendor set-up is at 9 a.m. The event will include a fun jump, kids' games and activities, arts and crafts, hamburger lunch raising money for Project Graduation and music and entertainment, followed by the Alvord Volunteer Firefighter's catfish fry and cake auction that evening.

EAGLE DOLLS - Girls ages 4 to 12 can join the Decatur Eagle Dolls and learn a routine to perform at halftime of the Decatur vs. Iowa Park home game Oct. 9. Forms can be picked up at Carson and Rann elementaries, Decatur Middle School, Decatur High School and The Magic Pony. FUNERALS - Graveside service for Ruby Black, 91, of Bridgeport is 2 p.m. Thursday at East Bridgeport Cemetery. Family visitation is 7-8 tonight at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport.

SERVICE for James Key, 58, of Alvord is 1 p.m. Friday at Coker-Hawkins Chapel. Family visitation is 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Entombment will be private at a later date.
