REGISTER TO VOTE - You have one more week to register to vote in November. Monday, Oct. 5, is the last day to register to vote or make changes to your voter card in order to be able to vote in the Nov. 3 election. The countywide ballot will include the state constitutional amendments and certain ballots will include the Bridgeport school bond, Decatur school bond and the Alpha Ranch Water Control and Improvement District issue. CITIZEN OF THE YEAR - Leon Fuqua was named "citizen of the year" at the Decatur Chamber of Commerce auction Saturday. Fuqua is chief operating officer at Wise Regional Health System in Decatur.

FORMER MAYOR DIES - Former Rhome Mayor William H. "Billy" Troxell, 76, of Rhome died Saturday in Rhome. His funeral is 10 a.m. Tuesday at Christian-Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Boyd with burial in Aurora Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

BUS ACCIDENT - A chartered bus carrying a college football team from Oklahoma Panhandle State University to the Metroplex was involved in an accident at 5 p.m. Friday on U.S. 81/287 South near Catfish O'harlie's north of Decatur. Department of Public Safety Trooper David Riggs said a pickup driven by John Boyd, 59, of Krum was crossing southbound U.S. 81/287 and failed to yield the right of way to the bus. Boyd was taken to Wise Regional Health System in Decatur. No one on the bus was injured. Southbound traffic was reduced to one lane in the area until the wreck was cleared at 6:30.

FOSTEL TO SEEK RE-ELECTION - John Fostel, 271st district judge, has announced he will seek a fifth term. Fostel, a Republican, was first elected district judge in 1994.

BENEFIT - IntegraCare Home Health is sponsoring a rummage/bake sale to benefit the families of Becca Logan and Leslie Denison from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Bridgeport office, 1300 Halsell St. Donations are being accepted. For information call (940) 683-8171.

TREES - Wise Soil & Water Conservation District is selling seedling trees to benefit local programs of the district. Evergreens, hardwoods and a wildlife packet are for sale by calling (940) 627-2268, ext. 5.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED - The Rhome Volunteer Fire Department needs volunteers to help with the department's annual haunted house. For information, call (817) 696-6742 or Judy at (817) 821-7205.

EARLY RELEASE - Bridgeport schools will release students early Wednesday, Sept. 30. Bridgeport Elementary will release at noon, Bridgeport Intermediate at 12:15 p.m., Bridgeport Middle School at 12:30 p.m. and Bridgeport High School at 12:45. Call (940) 683-5124 for information.

PIZZA NIGHT - Rann Elementary will have a "Dads and Kids" Pizza Night in the school cafeteria 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30. Free pizza, dessert and drinks will be served. At 6 p.m. the school will have a short presentation about the WATCHD.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) Program.
