PLANE CRASH - Four people were injured in a plane crash yesterday around 2:43 near the intersection of County Road 4227 and Currie Road northwest of Aurora. The occupants, four adult males, were all sent to hospitals in Fort Worth. Two were listed in critical condition and the other two were listed as serious according to Department of Public Safety (DPS) officers on the scene. Two received helicopter transport and the others were transported via ground. The pilot was Rod Lawrence and the three passengers were Robert Schumacher, the plane's owner, Jerry Namy and Kendal Hill. The plane was traveling from Oklahoma City to Meacham International in Fort Worth. The pilot told air traffic controllers that both engines went out, Federal Aviation Administration officials said. POWER OUTAGES - A transformer was struck by lightning near the 100 block of Washburn in Decatur during a thunderstorm that moved through during the late morning, early afternoon hours. Power was temporarily out at several businesses. Rainfall amounts included 3 inches in Runaway Bay, 2.03 in Decatur, 1.4 in Bridgeport, 1 in Boyd, 0.7 in Chico, 0.65 in Alvord and 0.4 in Slidell. There is a 30 percent chance of more rain today.

VARIANCES DENIED - The Decatur Planning and Zoning Commission denied two variances for Ernie Roberts Tuesday, as well as a replat application. Roberts sought to subdivide property on North State St. between Ash and Mulberry Streets, where he has built a home, and requested variances for requirements that water and sewer taps be put on the remaining lots, and that surveyor's monuments be erected with flood plain benchmarks. Six area residents opposed the replat but did not speak during a public hearing.

BOOK SALE - The Decatur Public Library's Book Sale is today through Saturday. Wise Electric Co-Op will sponsor a barbecue box lunch in the library parking lot from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today. Boxes are $6 and will benefit the Decatur Library Foundation.

PROJECT GRADUATION - A project graduation meeting for the parents of Bridgeport seniors is 5:30 tonight in the high school commons area.

RABIES CLINIC - Decatur Animal Control will provide $6 rabies vaccinations for all dogs and cats over 12 weeks old 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at the First United Methodist Church of Decatur parking lot. Other vaccinations will be available at reduced prices. All dogs must be on a leash, and cats must be in carriers. Decatur Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association will assist.

FUNERAL for Jaynie Hagerud, 63, of Boyd is 3 p.m. today at Christian-Hawkins Funeral Home in Boyd.

FUNERAL for Nona M. Thompson, 92, of Boyd is 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Christian-Hawkins Chapel with burial in Boyd Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.
