BREAKING NEWS - TEACHER ARRESTED - Derek B. Worlow, 32, a teacher at Bridgeport High School, was arrested today for one charge of sexual assault with a child and another charge of improper relationship between a student and teacher. The victim was 16 years old at the time of the alleged incidents. Worlow turned himself into authorities. He is in Wise County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
GRIEVANCE DENIED - A grievance review committee in a 9-0 vote rejected Precinct 1 Constable Tom Bishop's request to keep constable salaries at $48,500 instead of $32,000. The committee met Tuesday morning at the courthouse.
WEEKEND ACCIDENT - An accident on U.S. 81/287 resulted in major injuries for the driver of a passenger car Saturday afternoon. Daniel Byars, 21, of Fort Worth was transported to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth with head injuries following the single-car accident. Byars was southbound on U.S. 81/287 near County Road 4421 when he veered off the left side of the road and overcorrected to the right. His passenger car left the road and struck a culvert, then rolled several times. He was wearing his seatbelt. No passengers were in the vehicle.
FATAL WRECK - A Boyd woman was killed in an accident Saturday in Blanco County in Central Texas. Lee Anne Romine, 48, of Boyd was the passenger on a motorcycle operated by Darren Ronald Hatchel, 48. According to a report in Monday's Austin American-Statesman, DPS officials said the motorcycle struck a deer that had run into the road and Romine and Hactchel were thrown from the motorcycle around 5:45 p.m. Romine died at the scene, and Hatchel was taken to University Hospital in San Antonio. Graveside service for Romine is 10 a.m. Wednesday at Boyd Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at Christian-Hawkins Funeral Home in Boyd.
SCV MEETING - The Sons of Confederate Veterans meet at 7 tonight at the Wesley Center of the First United Methodist Church in Decatur. Dr. Robert Marlett will speak on "Comanche Campaign."
ROAD CLOSED - The intersection of County Road 2323 and 2324 will be closed for approximately six weeks for bridge replacement beginning today.
ANIMAL SHELTER - The Wise County Animal Shelter is offering a special on pet adoptions this month. Throughout September the shelter will accept donated items in lieu of any fees for animal adoptions. BOYD NEEDS BEARS - The Boyd High School cheerleaders are collecting stuffed animals for hospitalized children throughout the football season at all varsity and junior varsity home games. The animals can also be dropped off at Boyd High School. All donations must be new with tags still attached.
