TEACHER ARRESTED - Derek B. Worlow, 32, a teacher at Bridgeport High School, was arrested Tuesday afternoon for one charge of sexual assault of a child and another charge of improper relationship between a student and teacher. The victim was 16 years old at the time of the alleged incidents. Worlow turned himself in to authorities.

GRIEVANCE DENIED - A grievance review committee in a 9-0 vote rejected Precinct 1 constable Tom Bishop's request to keep constable salaries at $48,500 instead of $32,000. The committee met Tuesday morning at the courthouse.

COUNTY BUDGET/TAX RATE - Commissioners adopted a tax rate of 38.87 cents and approved a $58,794,825 budget Tuesday morning. The rate is actually a slight decrease from last year's, but Auditor Ann McCuiston said it will generate $700,260 more in tax revenue. McCuiston told commissioners that the entire elections department has also declined the insurance increase. The increase was previously declined by most appointed officials and the entire sheriff's department. The increase was not given to elected officials.

VETERANS PROGRAM - The Wise County Veterans Group is having a 9/11 Memorial Observance at 10 a.m. Friday at the Wise County Veterans Park.

GARDEN CLUB - The Decatur Garden Club meets at 10 a.m. today at Main Street Home and Garden Center.

CAR WASH - Chicken Express in Bridgeport is holding a benefit car wash, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. The car wash is by donation only and will benefit the families of Becca Logan and Leslie Denison.

BASEBALL MEETING - Wise County Special Needs Baseball monthly meeting is 5:30 tonight at Pizza Hut in Decatur.

GIRLS NIGHT OUT - Decatur downtown merchants are hosting "Girls Night Out" from 6-8 p.m. Thursday. The theme this month is "Cowgirl Up" to celebrate the arrival of the rodeo this weekend. Refreshments will be served in participating shops. Register to win a gift basket donated by the merchants valued at more than $100.

CHICO HOMECOMING - Chico ISD will dismiss at noon Friday for the annual Homecoming festivities. This year's parade theme is "Rock the Wildcats," and floats can be decorated with anything rock-and-roll related. Entries will begin lining up in the high school student parking lot as soon as school dismisses, and the parade will make its way around the downtown square at 1. To register a float, call J. D. Clark at (940) 389-0969. The annual community barbecue dinner and cake auction is 5 to 7 p.m. in the high school commons area. All proceeds go to the Chico Ex-Student Association Scholarship Fund.

TRIATHLON - The first Wise Tri Triathlon is Sunday at Lake Bridgeport. Proceeds from Wise Tri go directly towards research for treatment or a cure for Galactosemia. All proceeds will be donated to Galactosemic Families of the Southern States (GFSS), http://www.galactosemiasupport.org a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. FUNERAL for William M. Greer, 77, of Rhome is 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, at Hawkins Funeral Home with burial at 2 p.m. in D-FW National Cemetery in Dallas. Family visitation is 6-8 p.m. Monday.

MEMORIAL service for Paul Edward Fitzsimmons, 84, of Paradise is 11 a.m. Saturday at Hawkins Chapel. Family visitation will follow the service.
