CATTLE, CHASE AND GUNFIRE - A man stole an 18-wheeler loaded with cattle in the Keeter area at 5:40 p.m. Sunday. Nicholas Collie, 21, of Paradise proceeded to lead a squadron of sheriff's deputies, state troopers and police officers on a half-hour chase. They raced down numerous county roads and onto Texas 114 through Paradise and Bridgeport at speeds of up to 80 miles per hour. Just south of Bridgeport on FM 920 officers shot out the radiator and several tires on the speeding truck. The truck rode into a ditch and Collie jumped out. He was apprehended moments later. There were no known injuries to the officers, cattle or the suspect. Collie was charged with theft of $100,000 to $200,000, theft of less than 100 head of cattle, unauthorized use of a vehicle and evading arrest. His bond totals $195,000.
VOTING BEGINS TODAY - Early voting begins today through Oct. 30 for the Texas constitutional amendment election and school bond elections at Bridgeport and Decatur. Voting is each weekday at the Decatur Civic Center from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and at the Bridgeport ISD administration building, 2107 15th street, from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Other early voting times and locations have also been announced. JP JOHNSON TO RUN AGAIN - Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Terri Johnson has announced she will run for re-election in 2010. Johnson, a Republican, made the announcement at Alvord's annual Fall Fest Saturday.
PET ADOPTION - During the month of October, some area businesses will make a $5 donation to Susan G. Komen for the Cure for every animal adopted from the Wise County Animal Shelter. RUNNING FOR A CURE - David Cude of Decatur won the Sarah's Cure 5K run in Decatur Saturday with a time of 17 minutes, 52 seconds. Overall female winner was Laura McCreary with a time of 21 minutes and 11 seconds. Money raised from the run and the concert Saturday benefit research to find a cure for galactosemia.
