COLLEGE TAX RATE SET - County commissioners set the branch campus maintenance tax at five cents for Weatherford College Wise County at a special meeting Tuesday, which will be on the tax bills received in October. Commissioners wanted to adopt something less than five cents so a lower rate would be frozen for individuals over 65, but they decided the benefit to taxpayers was minimal, while anything less than five cents would be detrimental to the college. Individuals over 65 have already been granted a $100,000 exemption for this tax, which means they do not have to pay the tax on the first $100,000 of their homestead value. The county is expected to close on the property for the new campus in a week to 10 days, County Judge Bill McElhaney said.
