CRASH KNOCKS OUT POWER - A one-vehicle accident on County Road 3336, a quarter-mile from Texas 114 near Paradise, knocked out electrical power for much of the Paradise-Cottondale area just after 8:30 Wednesday night. The vehicle hit a power pole, and the affected areas included the traffic light on 114 in Paradise.

BOYD SETS TAX RATE - The Boyd City Council last night adopted a tax rate of 45.6 cents per $100 valuation for the upcoming fiscal year, the same rate as last year. Also, the council enacted water restrictions in reaction to recent low levels in the city wells. Residents are now allowed to water their lawns only once per week. The council installed the water conservation measure for a six-month period.

WATER BOARD - The Wise County Water Supply District board Tuesday approved a $2.1 million budget for the new fiscal year beginning Oct. 1. The district, an entity of the City of Decatur, approved a 14.5-cent tax rate, the same rate as the current year. The budget includes $1 million in improvements to the city's raw water supply system approved by voters in 2007.

SEED SALE - Fall grass and legume seed, including bluebonnet and wildflower mix, fall deer mix and grazing mix is for sale at the Wise Soil and Water Conservation District office in Decatur. To order, call 627-2942, ext. 5.

BOOSTER CLUB - The Decatur Eagle Booster Club meets at 7 a.m. Friday at Prada Bistro in the Prada Shops in Decatur.

CHAMBER LUNCH - The Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce September luncheon is 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Bridgeport Lions' Hall. Meal cost is $10. RSVP to the chamber office no later than today.

FISH FRY - The annual Decatur Band Booster Fish Fry is Friday at 5 p.m. at the old Intermediate school cafeteria. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students in advance or $8 for adults and $6 for students at the door. Meal will include fish, hush puppies, French fries, beans, cole slaw and homemade desserts. NEED MORE COWBELL - The Decatur High School Class of 2010 is selling cowbells for this year's homecoming game Friday at Eagle Stadium. Cowbells are $8 each and support the 2011 junior/senior prom.

JAKES EVENT - The Cross Timbers Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation will hold a JAKES event for kids 17 and under on Saturday, Sept. 19, on the LBJ Grasslands. There will be target shooting, archery, wood carving, predator/prey game and other outdoor activities. Lunch is provided, and a shotgun and bow will be given away.
