GUILTY VERDICT - This afternoon a Wise County Jury found Michael Almendarez, 36, of Bridgeport guilty of sexual assault and indecency with a child. The victim was 16-years-old and a sophomore in high school when the crime occurred in May 2008. Almendarez was released from prison in Dec. 2007 after serving a 15-year sentence for robbery with bodily injury. The punishment phase of the trial is underway as of 4 p.m.
CRASH KNOCKS OUT POWER - A one-vehicle accident on County Road 3336, a quarter-mile from Texas 114 near Paradise, knocked out electrical power for much of the Paradise-Cottondale area just after 8:30 Wednesday night. The vehicle hit a power pole, and the affected areas included the traffic light on Texas 114 in Paradise.
BUSY NIGHT - The Decatur School Board tonight has a full agenda, including taking action on naming the new elementary school, adding a Bible course at the high school and building a parking lot at the support services building. Board members will also hear updates on construction projects and technology. The meeting is at 6:30 at the administration building.
MORE RAIN - Parts of Wise County, including Decatur, were receiving more rain this morning as Update went to press. Overnight rainfall amounts include 0.37 of an inch in Decatur and 0.3 in Bridgeport and Chico. The forecast calls for a chance of rain throughout the day.
OPENING POSTPONED - The Grand Opening of Northwest OHV Park originally scheduled for Saturday has been postponed until Oct. 10 due to the recent heavy rainfall.
