When Jerod Blanks scored on a 4-yard run and added the two-point try with 3:11 to go in the third quarter, an Alvord two-score halftime lead had dwindled to just a point. The Alvord defense made the lead hold up over final 15 minutes as the Bulldogs squeaked out the 15-14 victory over the rival Chico Dragons.

Boyd takes final playoff spot, beating Paradise

Entering Friday night at 0-4 in District 4-3A Division I, the Boyd Yellowjackets needed to solve a long math problem and get some help to get into the postseason. The Yellowjackets got the assistance with Bowie crushing Ponder. They took care of their part of the equation with Logan Jones’ second touchdown run of the night lifting them to a 29-13 victory over the rival Paradise Panthers at Yellowjacket Stadium.

After a pair of turnovers in the red zone in the first half stopped scoring chances, the Decatur Eagles found themselves trailing at the break 21-20. Decatur quarterback Wilson Hicks quickly changed that with his legs instead of his arm. Hicks broke free on the first play from scrimmage in the second half on a 58-yard dash to the end zone to put the Eagles back in front. Decatur never surrendered the lead again en route to a playoff-clinching 69-49 win over Burkburnett.

The Paradise Panthers had a chance to break two streaks Friday night. With a win, Paradise (3-6, 1-3) would have snapped a three-game losing skid to Bowie dating back to 2013, and likely secured its first playoff berth since 2008. But the Jackrabbits (3-6, 2-2) had other ideas. Bowie spoiled the Panthers’ senior night, beating Paradise 32-22 behind four rushing touchdowns from senior quarterback Matt Wallace.
