Decatur’s Parker Hicks lit up opponents throughout his senior season for the Eagles, averaging 31.3 points per game. Hicks is now taking his talents west to Lubbock. He committed to Texas Tech as a “preferred walk-on” Friday.

With a thunderous two-handed dunk by Fort Bend Marshall’s John Walker III late in the fourth quarter, the Buffalo’s put the finishing touches on a decisive Class 5A state semifinal victory and ended the Northwest Texans dreams season. Despite a heroic effort from sophomore standout Avery Anderson and his team-leading 23 points, the Texans (32-6) had no answer for the Buffaloes (32-7) losing, 82-59.

Saltillo used a 9-0 run in the fourth quarter to grab the lead and force the Slidell Greyhounds to play catch-up the rest of the way. The Greyhounds stayed within reach until the final shot as Saltillo escaped with 58-56 victory in the Class A Region III quarterfinal at Blue Ridge High School.

In the extra period, Lincoln’s Tacorian Jones’ quick hands provided the difference. The guard made a pair of steals. The second he converted into a layup and-one that put the defending 4A champions up six and on the way to the 61-55 victory in the Region II quarterfinal at Richland High School.

After a slow start, the Slidell Lady Greyhounds shot their way out of an early hole and back into the game Saturday afternoon. But second-ranked Dodd City’s size inside with the 6-1 Olivia and 6-foot Fallon Hilliard proved too much to overcome. The Hilliards combined for 26 points and 10 rebounds in leading Dodd City to the 53-38 victory over Slidell in the Class A Region III final at Mansfield High School.
