Decatur’s Bobbi Clemmer finished her high-school athletic career with a sixth-place finish in the Class 3A 800 Saturday at the University Interscholastic League track and field championships.
The senior turned in a 2:21.7 in her final race.
“It was my best time of the year,” Clemmer said. “I thought I ran decent. You can always do better.”
It was Clemmer’s first appearance at the state meet since her freshman year at Slidell when she finished second in the 800.
“I got back down here,” Clemmer said. “I wish I had better results.”
Rossina Ortega of Castleberry captured the state title in 2:15.9. Danielle Rodriguez of Lyford took second in 2:17. Prosper’s Laura Henry earned the bronze medal in 2:17.3.
Through the first 200 meters, Clemmer was in third place. But she could not get to the outside in a tight pack and fell to sixth by the end of the first lap.
The leaders finished the first 400 in 1:05.
“I was boxed in the whole time,” she said. “It was so crowded. We stayed in a clump the entire race.”
