Dallas Taylor earned varsity coaching career victory No. 1 Thursday night against the team she guided to the playoffs as a player 10 years before.
Taylor’s Bridgeport Sissies held the Aubrey Lady Chaparrals without a point in the second half to net the 31-19 win in the first round of the Highway 114 Tournament at Bridgeport High School gym.
The Sissies forced seven turnovers and held Aubrey to 0-for-7 shooting after halftime.
Bridgeport held the ball for large chunks of the third quarter against the Lady Chaparrals’ zone. After scoring just four points in the frame, Bridgeport took a 25-19 lead into the fourth quarter.
The Sissies built a double-digit lead with 1:45 remaining, 29-19, on a Sabrina Garza layup. Garza scored four points to go along with a game-high nine rebounds.
Lauren Hart led the Sissies with 15 points. She scored all her points in first half, including a pair of three-pointers in the final minute to give Bridgeport a 21-19 halftime lead.
Aubrey’s Kendyl Wright equaled Hart in the first half, scoring 15. Her basket midway through the second quarter gave Aubrey a 15-14 lead. The Lady Chaparrals went up three before Hart ended the half with a 7-1 run.
