Texans post second-place finish

Behind senior Troy Taylor and several underclassmen, the Northwest Texans Thursday reserved their spot in the Nov. 5 Class 5A Region I race.
The Texans took second at the District 7-5A cross country championships at Grapevine’s Oak Grove Park with 75 points. Southlake Carroll won the meet with 19, putting seven runners in the top nine. Keller finished third, tallying 90.
Carroll’s Joe Sansone ran 15:37 on the 5K course to win the 7-5A individual title by four seconds over his teammate Nate Sullivan.
Taylor finished third in 15:50. With hard kick at the end, Zach Kirkland took sixth in 15:56. Ashton Shelton was 19th in 17:00, and Jacob Suchors 22nd in 17:14. Trenton Koestler crossed the finish line as the fifth Texan in 17:26 for 25th.
Caleb Frandsen ran 17:43 for 31st, and Jonathan Kilgore 18:44 for 43rd.
