Eagles sweep 7-3A meet

The Decatur’s Daniel Smyers and Remington May raced to the finished line Thursday afternoon at the District 7-3A meet, completing the Eagles’ clean sweep.
With the two finishing fourth and fifth a second ahead of Castleberry’s Ramon Castillo, the Eagles took the top five spots to win the second straight district title with 15 points.
Castleberry took second with 58 points. Burleson Centennial was third with 60.
Decatur sophomore Taylor Clayton captured the individual title, running 16:25 on the 5K course at Joe Wheeler Park. He finished 24 seconds ahead of his teammate Michael Smyers. Travis Kyle took third in 16:54. Daniel Smyers was fourth in 17:04, and May fifth in 17:05.
Brandon Rivera finished eighth in 17:09, and Lane Mitchell 14th in 17:41.
