Senior Kortni Robinson spiked the ball to the floor of Decatur gym Tuesday, putting an exclamation mark to another perfect district run for the Decatur Lady Eagles.
Decatur beat District 7-3A rival Bridgeport 25-7, 25-9, 25-13 to complete a perfect 10-0 run through the league without dropping a game.
It was the Lady Eagles’ second straight year to complete the clean sweep as they extended their district winning streak to 32 matches and 62 games, dating back to October 2009.
In her final home match, four-year starter Kortney Tompkins put down 12 kills. Senior setter Joey Redwine added eight kills and 28 assists. Robinson made 14 digs to go along with three kills.
With the loss, Bridgeport lost its grasp on sole possession of second place in the district and fell into a tie with Burleson Centennial at 7-3. The two will meet Friday in Weatherford at 7 p.m. in a district tiebreaker match to determine the league’s second and third seeds into the Class 3A Region I playoffs.
Bridgeport will open the playoffs Monday or Tuesday against either West or Glen Rose.
As the district champions, Decatur has a bye through bi-district. They will play Brock Monday at home at 7 p.m. in a warmup match.
