Nicole Neighbors couldn’t chase down the Hockaday’s Jackie Choucair, but came away with second place Saturday at the Assault at Eagle Summit.
The Decatur freshman ran a 13:03 on the hilly two-mile course at Decatur High School. She finished 11 seconds behind Choucair.
“That was the hardest course I’ve ever ran,” Neighbors said. “I ran it last year, but I don’t remember it being that hard.”
Several muddy portions left by Friday’s heavy downpours added to the difficulty of the usually hard course.
“The mud would just stick to your feet where you couldn’t run,” Neighbors said.
Decatur’s Zuleima Palomo took fourth in 13:24.
“It was really hard,” Palomo said. “The mud was like bricks on your feet.”
Natalie Neighbors finished seventh in 13:31.
Decatur was without two of their top runners Morgan Haney and Bobbi Clemmer.
The rest of the results will be in the Messenger Thursday.
