Lady Eagles win opener

Led by 12 kills from senior outside hitter Kortney Tompkins, the Decatur Lady Eagles stormed past Wichita Falls Rider Tuesday in the season opener.
The Lady Eagles won in three games, 25-21, 25-17, 25-19 at Decatur High School Gym.
Senior setter Joey Redwine recorded 25 assists along with five aces.
Decatur controlled the net throughout, putting down 11 blocks for kills.
Tompkins opened the match with four kills in a tight game one.
With Decatur trailing 17-16, Redwine put down one of her three kills to tie the game. The Lady Eagles pushed ahead on back-to-back Rider errors and never trailed again.
Tompkins ended the game with a kill.
Decatur jumped out to an 18-7 lead in game two, allowing coach Claire Rose to put in several of freshmen. The group of youngsters maintained the lead to put the Lady Eagles up two games.
A Tompkins kill put Decatur up 11-3 in the third game. Rider battled to get back within three, 13-10, but could get no closer.
A kill from freshman Caroline Lowery followed by a block for a kill by sophomore Katie Isham gave the Lady Eagles a 21-13 lead.
Another freshman Makayla Mayfield pushed the advantage to match point, 24-18. Senior Haley Dale then ended the game with a kill of her own.
