The Boyd Yellowjackets protected their early lead Tuesday night, taking down the Millsap Bulldogs 10-7.
Jared Cate gave the Yellowjackets a strong start, keeping Millsap hitless through four innings and protecting a 7-1 lead. But he could not get out of the fifth inning.
“He began to struggle with a shrinking strike zone and gave up four walks and two singles that led to five runs,” said Boyd coach Dwayne Gardner.
Mason Anderson came on in relief with runners at second and third with two outs. He gave up a single and then got a strikeout to get out of the inning.
The Boyd offense rallied with three runs over the final two innings to get win.
Cate led the Yellowjackets, going 3-for-4 with a double and RBI. He also scored three runs. Kyle Stearns tripled, drove in two runs and scored twice. Anderson went 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Junior Whatley also had two hits and a RBI.
