Henson blast wins game

Cody Henson hit a walk-off three-run homer to lift the Bridgeport Bulls to a 9-8 victory over Douglas at the Tournament of Champions this weekend.
Bridgeport is 3-3 after the tournament.
“I think that we improved and learned a lot over the five games this past weekend,” said Bridgeport coach Ted Leps. “We need to be able to make the routine play and correct some things before district comes around.”
The walk-off blast was Henson’s second of the tournament. It was part of a four-run rally in the sixth inning. Douglas led 8-5 going into the last inning.
Kevin Coan started the Bulls’ scoring with his third home run of the weekend. Coan went 3-for-4 in the game. Diego Hernandez and Blake Waldrep also had three hits.
Bridgeport used four pitchers — Hernandez, Omar Martinez, Branon Huff and Luke Simmons. Simmons got the win, working two and two-thirds scoreless innings.
The Bulls started the tournament with an 8-0 win against Graham. Waldrep earned the win with six strong innings, allowing just two hits and striking out five.
Henson went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs. Coan and Austin Blevins were 3-for-4. Coan hit a home run, and Blevins added a double.
Bridgeport scored a 15-0 win over Mineral Wells. Bridgeport scored six runs in the first and fourth innings. Henson was 3-for-4, falling a home run shy of the cycle. He drove in five. Coan went 3-for-3 and Blevins 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Kyle Parker got the win striking out eight and allowing only one hit in five innings.
