The Chico Dragons opened the baseball season Friday with a 8-1 pasting of Poolville.
Chico plated five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to blow a 3-1 game open.
“It was a great team effort,” said Chico coach Jason Sanders. “Lots of hustle and good defense with only error. It was a good way to start the year.”
Chico pitcher Ryan Mote led the Dragons, striking out 11 over seven innings of one-hit ball. He walked one and allowed just one earned run.
First baseman Gabriel Rohan led Chico at the plate, going 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs and a double. Naamon Barkley and Jimmy Moore also drove in runs. Mote scored two runs, doubling in one of his two official at-bats.
