Bulls’ rally falls short

The Bridgeport Bulls rallied from a 12-point, second-half deficit to take a lead in the final two minutes, but they could not hold off the Vernon Lions.
Vernon’s Scott Young hit a basket inside to give the Lions the lead back. They then hit four free throws to pull out a 60-56 victory over the Bulls at Bridgeport High School.
Vernon guard Dillon Perez hit five 3-pointers in the first half to help the Lions to a 31-25 halftime lead. Perez finished with a game-high 25 points.
Vernon led 41-29 with 3:55 left in the third quarter after Tate Methvin completed a three-point play.
Bridgeport trailed by nine entering the final frame, 47-38. The Bulls tightened their defense and opened the quarter on a 9-0 run. Jason Mitchell buried a 3-pointer with 4:57 left to tie the game at 47.
After Vernon built its lead back to four, 54-40, Mitchell turned a steal into a layup and hit a 3-pointer to give Bridgeport its first lead since the first quarter with 1:46 left.
The lead lasted 19 seconds as Young put Vernon back in front.
Down by three, 59-56, with 15 seconds left, Mitchell’s attempt to tie the game missed the mark. Vernon iced the game with a free throw by Logan Harkey.
Mitchell finished with 12 points. Daniel Scott led Bridgeport with 13. Dillon Lingo scored eight, Kyle Parker seven, Drew Miles six, Mac Whitcomb four and Skylar Stowe three.
