Sissies remain on top of 5-3A

The Bridgeport Sissies are still the team to beat in District 5-3A.
The defending district champions battled back from an 11-point deficit in the third quarter Friday night beat the Iowa Park Lady Hawks 49-47 at Bridgeport High School.
Emily Price led the Bridgeport comeback scoring 16. Presley White and Katie Samples each poured in eight.
Behind Presley Gann, Iowa Park took an early lead and held it through most of the third quarter. Gann finished with a game-high 18 points and 13 rebounds.
Iowa Park took a 31-20 lead with six minutes left in the third quarter after a basket by Gann.
Bridgeport then mounted a charge, closing the third quarter with a 16-4 run. Price hit a shot to give Bridgeport the lead, 36-35, with 36 seconds left in the frame. She scored seven points in the run.
The two teams traded the lead in the fourth quarter. Trailing by one with 1:38 left, White made a hard move to the basket for a layup to put Bridgeport 48-47.
Bridgeport forced two straight Iowa Park turnovers to protect the lead. Samples hit a free throw with 9.5 seconds remaining to stretch the lead to two.
The shot by Iowa Park’s Amanda Furhman with three seconds left fell short, giving Bridgeport the win and an 11-game winning streak in the league.
