The Lady Eagles, who are ranked No. 5 in the latest Class 3A poll, beat rival Bridgeport in four games Tuesday night to move to 35-5 on the year and 8-0 in district play. Decatur won the match 25-15, 21-25, 25-11, 25-10.
On senior night, the Lady Eagles cruised through the first game. Decatur dropped the second game.
"Being senior night, emotions were high and the crowd was rowdy, but we were not there mentally," said Decatur coach Claire Rose.
"We forced way too many errors, causing us to lose game two. Our timing was off on the block, and our serving was just OK.
"Overall, we were just a little inconsistent and let the emotions of the game get to us," she said.
The Lady Eagles came back to win games three and four easily.
Kortney Tompkins led the Lady Eagles with 11 kills and 13 digs.
Sara Oxford put down 10 kills to go along with three blocks and five aces. Setter Fleming Smurthwaite recorded 28 assists.
