Coach Claire Rose's concern about a homecoming letdown were quickly dispatched as Decatur played its game, allowing very few free balls, attacking the Argyle defense and keeping rallies alive.
"The team did a great job of keeping them out of system, not allowing their big hitters to do any damage," Rose said. Decatur's setters and hitters did a great job moving the ball around, Rose said, keying off a good defensive effort from the back row.
Sara Oxford led the front line assault with nine kills and seven blocks. Kortney Tompkins slammed eight kills and blocked three shots. Ingrid Boatman had six kills and three blocks. Fleming Smurthwite blocked three to go with five kills. Ciara Currin blocked seven and killed two, and Kortni Robinson blocked six with two kills.
Smurthwaite put up 21 assists and Joey Redwine five.
Oxford and Tompkins served two aces each.
Oxford dug out 13 Argyle attempts, Tompkins 11, Smurthwaite nine, Carmen Cash six, Lynzee Jordan five, Robinson four and Claribel Trejo and Boatman three each.
